The InstaCord retraction mechanism is smooth and doesn't feel like it'll snap after a few months. One thing to note: this doesn't have a battery, it's just a power strip with a retractable cord. If you need a battery backup, look elsewhere. As a pure power strip with great cable management, it's excellent.
