In Deutschland ist er vielen durch seinen Beitrag zur documenta 12 bekannt geworden: Dream, ein aus ber 400 Kanistern bestehendes offenes Boot, fr das er mit dem Arnold Bode Preis 2007 ausgezeichnet wurde.

Von den gegenseitigen Sehnsüchten Afrikas wie Europas nach dem angeblichen Paradies auf der jeweils anderen Seite zeugt die künstlerische Arbeit des in Porto-Novo, der Hauptstadt des westafrikanischen Landes Benin, arbeitenden Romuald Hazoumè (*1962). In Deutschland ist er vielen durch seinen Beitrag zur documenta 12 bekannt geworden: Dream, ein aus über 400 Kanistern bestehendes offenes Boot, für das er mit dem Arnold-Bode-Preis 2007 ausgezeichnet wurde. Der Kanister spielt auch bei seinen aktuellen Fotoarbeiten, Skulpturen und Installationen eine bedeutende Rolle: In Benin ist er Werkzeug und Überlebensobjekt. Indem Hazoumè aus diesen Kanistern zum Beispiel Masken fertigt und sie zum Modul einer künstlerischen Sprache erklärt, die ebenso auf den Traditionen der Yoruba, seiner heimatlichen Kultur, wie auf dem Diskurs internationaler zeitgenössischer Kunst beruht, durchbricht er kolonialistische Denkmuster.

So thrilled I took a chance on these. Finding boots is impossible for me. I have wide feet, a super high instep, a bunion on one foot, and I wear a hard to find size (10.5). I ordered the 10.5 and 11 in these expecting I might need to size up for width (if I could even get them on). After two days of light wear, they are already breaking in and I have no more discomfort. Getting them on is already easier and they are plenty wide enough and very comfortable to walk in. These are true to size. Super happy and worth a day of mild discomfort to break them in!
