If you were to merge the melody and tension of modern post-hardcore with the volatility and urgency of ’90s screamo, you might begin to approach Quiet Fear. Raised in the DIY communities of Los Angeles, the band channel a sound that is as chaotic as it is deliberate, shaped by culture, identity, and lived experience.

Quiet Fear’s music exists in the space between internal collapse and external pressure. Across their work, themes of systemic oppression, economic control, and social alienation collide with deeply personal reflections on isolation, fear, and self-destruction. Their songs capture what it means to feel trapped within a system, within a city, and within your own mind, while still searching for something beyond it. Lyrics move fluidly between Spanish and English, not as a stylistic choice, but as a reflection of reality, a voice that speaks to community, history, and the weight carried across generations.

On their sophomore full-length, La Tierra Arriba / El Abismo Abajo, Quiet Fear push further into that tension. The album confronts false authority, spiritual manipulation, and cycles of exploitation, while giving equal space to grief, exhaustion, and the psychological toll of existing within those structures. There is a constant sense of pressure throughout, a world closing in, a body breaking down, met with an undercurrent of resistance that refuses to disappear. It is as much about endurance as it is about defiance.

Sonically, the record expands beyond traditional screamo into heavier and more dynamic territory, blending the intensity of hardcore, screamo, and grindcore with a modern sense of atmosphere and depth. Recorded by Alex Estrada at Pale Moon Ranch (Touché Amoré, Drug Church) and mastered by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Jeromes Dream), the album captures both immediacy and scale, shifting between overwhelming chaos and stark, breathing space without losing cohesion.

Originally emerging from Los Angeles’ DIY circuit, Quiet Fear have built their identity through honesty and intention rather than spectacle. With La Tierra Arriba / El Abismo Abajo, they deliver a record that feels uncompromising in both sound and purpose, a reflection of lived experience, and a refusal to look away from it.
