Discover the true story of St. Kilda.

When the last 36 inhabitants of St Kilda, 40 miles west of the Scottish Hebrides, were evacuated in 1930, the archipelago at ‘the edge of the world’ lost its permanent population after five millennia.

It has long been accepted that the islanders’ failure to adapt to the modern world was its demise. Andrew Fleming overturns the traditional view. Unafraid of highlighting dark times, he shows how they sacrificed their reputation as an uncorrupted, ideal society to embrace and exploit the tourist trade. Creating a prestigious tweed, exporting the ancestors of today’s Hebridean sheep, the islanders gained access to consumer goods and learned how to play politics to their advantage.

This book tells the absorbing and eventful story of St Kilda from earliest times, up to the evacuation and its aftermath. Previously untapped sources and fresh insights bring to life the personalities, feelings, attitudes and rich culture of the islanders themselves, as well as the numerous outsiders who engaged with the remote island community.

You get what you pay for
Color: 6692:Silver strap&blue dial
I thought I'd give this a try but when I took it out of the box, it was the cheapest built watch I ever bought. You get what you pay for. It was supper light so I don't believe it was stainless wrist band. Felt more like potted metal. Never again.

Good basic watch
Smaller than I expected but super nice we'll built. Offers day in English and Spanish. Stylish but simple. Easy to read the time and date.

Classy, comfortable, accurate
My previous Casio has gotten pretty beat up. So I wanted another Casio without spending a lot. I also need it do have both day and date. A metal band is a must. I sweat a lot and leather doesn’t last. The band needs to adjust perfectly to my relatively thin wrist. First, I like the style of the face - simple and easy to read. The watch isn’t real fancy which is fine with me. The band took a bit of adjusting and came out perfectly. It’s not too heavy and retains good accuracy. Can’t beat the price. Only thing I wish it had was 24 hour sub-dial instead of elapsed minutes. I think it’s a great value and a nice looking everyday watch.

Very nice watch but hands need to be larger and luminous
It’s a very nice looking watch. Band adjustment is not difficult using the tools that come with th watch- and it’s very attractive. The watch could stand to be improved by by making the Hands larger and by making them luminous. The watch is very comfortable to wear . It may be a little large for a small wrist but it’s not gigantic. I haven’t checked the accuracy but it appears that the watch doesn’t lose or gain time.

Literally just a good watch, absolutely nothing to complain about
Ive had two versions of this watch, the leather strap version and this metal version. The only weak point on my old watch was the leather strap. This thing is simple, elegant, and practical, couldn't really ask more from a watch. It holds up pretty well and doesn't scratch too easily (if you have a labor intensive job you might want a glass protector). I've had mine for a couple months now and it only has a few very faint scratches but that's just because im rough on my watches lol. I would recommend this to literally anybody
