COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Prepare & Deliver Effective Presentations course. This program equips you with the skills, structures, and strategies required to plan, design, and deliver presentations that are clear, confident, engaging, and persuasive. You will explore the importance of preparing great presentations, how to work out your objectives, why you should understand your audience thoroughly, and why ensuring your facts are correct is essential for credibility. This section also examines why you must consider the venue, visual aids, and equipment in advance, the importance of practice, and the common mistakes people make when preparing a presentation—mistakes that reduce impact, weaken confidence, and distract from your message.

This course begins by outlining how to deliver great presentations, including how to structure your presentation, how to introduce it effectively, and how to make a strong impact in the main section. You will explore how to conclude your presentation with clarity and purpose, the importance of your posture and delivery, and how to make a dignified exit that reinforces professionalism. This section also examines the common mistakes people make during delivery so you can avoid them and maintain authority throughout your presentation.

The next learning area focuses on managing nerves, confidence, and physical presence. You will explore how to fight back against nerves, why shyness should not become a barrier, and how physical effects of worry can interfere with communication. This section examines how to boost your message using body language, how to make a confident entrance, and how to use positive postures that support credibility. You will also explore how to ensure your posture does not betray nervousness, how to be natural with gestures, and how to control your tone and mannerisms. This area concludes by explaining why matching your clothing to the occasion reinforces your overall message and presence.

A further part of the program examines handling challenges and unexpected situations. You will explore how to survive worst-case scenarios during presentations, how to manage the audience effectively, and how to arrange seating in ways that support engagement. This section also explains how to deal with disruptions, how to manage difficult situations, and how to handle unexpected time issues without losing control. You will also learn what to do if you lose your train of thought mid-sentence and how to avoid the most common nerve-induced pitfalls.

By the end of this course you will be able to prepare strong, well-structured presentations, deliver them with confidence and clarity, manage nerves effectively, maintain professionalism under pressure, and engage audiences in ways that strengthen your message and your credibility as a presenter.

Answers Many Questions about Naval Developments
Format: Hardcover
The history offers a detailed and well organized account of the Royal Navy as it transitioned from sail to steam. Coverage included personalities, technology, tactics and strategy. The combination provided a complete appreciation of the dynamics at play, some unexpectedly. The details might be a bit much for a casual reader but offered plenty of avenues for research not available or compiled in one source. I look forward to the final volume, which should describe another watershed era.

Great Book with a different perspective
Format: Hardcover
This will be a short review of a very long book. I ordered the book expecting more of a history of the British Navy, but this is more of a history of Britain with respect to its navy. It is still excellent and authoritative, just different than I expected. I really appreciate a somewhat different perspective than I have found in some other books. For example, any discussion of Jackie Fisher I have read previously seemed to border on the hagiographic, whereas here he seems to get a very evenhanded appraisal. A great book, highly recommended.
