Audio-Technica AT-SP3X Powered Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The AT-SP3XWH is a pair of powered bookshelf speakers from Audio-Technica (Tokyo, Japan), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Delivering 30W of maximum output through 3" woofers and 1.1" silk dome tweeters, these compact active speakers are tuned by a built-in DSP for rich, full-range audio spanning 55 Hz to 20,000 Hz. With Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity alongside dual RCA analogue inputs, the AT-SP3XWH connects effortlessly to turntables, computers, smartphones, and televisions without requiring any external amplifier or receiver. The white finish adds a clean, minimalist aesthetic suited to any room in the home.

Built-In DSP and Full-Range Driver Configuration

The AT-SP3XWH houses a 76 mm (3") woofer and a 27 mm (1.1") tweeter in each enclosure, configured as a 2-way, 2-driver bass-reflex design. The integrated Digital Signal Processor actively tunes the speaker output to achieve a balanced frequency response across the full range, compensating for the compact cabinet volume and ensuring the low frequencies remain controlled and defined. The DSP tuning means these speakers punch noticeably above their physical size, delivering a wide stereo soundstage with good imaging when positioned approximately 80 cm apart. The frequency response of 55 Hz to 20,000 Hz covers the full musical spectrum from bass guitar fundamentals to the upper harmonics of cymbals and acoustic instruments.

Bluetooth 5.3 with Multipoint Pairing

Bluetooth 5.3 provides a stable wireless connection up to approximately 10 metres (33 feet) line of sight, supporting the A2DP profile with SBC codec at sample rates of 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz at up to 24-bit depth. A standout feature is Bluetooth multipoint pairing, which allows two devices to remain connected simultaneously. This means you can stream from a smartphone and a laptop at the same time, switching between sources without re-pairing. The 2.4 GHz FHSS spread spectrum method ensures consistent wireless performance in typical home environments with competing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals nearby.

Plug-and-Play Setup for Any Source

The AT-SP3XWH is powered entirely by the included AC adapter, which accepts voltages from 100 V to 240 V and ships with four international plug adapters, making it suitable for use anywhere in the world. A 2.0 m (6.6') speaker cable connects the left and right units. The dual RCA analogue inputs accept a wired connection directly from the phono output of a turntable with a built-in phono stage, a computer sound card, a TV, or any other line-level source. The control interface is intentionally simple: a single power button with LED indicator and a volume control dial sit on the right-hand speaker. No additional software, app, or setup process is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Audio-Technica AT-SP3XWH powered bookshelf speakers?

The AT-SP3XWH is a pair of self-powered, 2-way bookshelf speakers from Audio-Technica featuring 3" woofers, 1.1" tweeters, 30W maximum output, and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity. They require no external amplifier or receiver and connect to turntables, computers, smartphones, and televisions via RCA analogue input or Bluetooth. The white finish distinguishes this variant from the standard black AT-SP3X model.

How does the AT-SP3XWH compare to the Edifier R1280DB and Klipsch The Fives?

The AT-SP3XWH competes directly with entry-level powered bookshelf speakers but occupies a more compact form factor than either the Edifier R1280DB or the Klipsch The Fives. The Edifier R1280DB offers optical and coaxial digital inputs alongside RCA, giving it greater connectivity for TV setups, while the Klipsch The Fives adds HDMI ARC input and a built-in phono preamp. The AT-SP3XWH differentiates itself with Bluetooth 5.3 multipoint pairing, a smaller physical footprint, and Audio-Technica's DSP tuning, making it particularly well suited for desktop and bedroom setups where size matters and a two-device wireless workflow is a priority.

Can the AT-SP3XWH connect to a turntable directly?

The AT-SP3XWH connects directly to turntables that have a built-in phono preamp via the dual RCA inputs. Most modern Audio-Technica turntables, including the AT-LP120XUSB and AT-LP3XBT, feature a switchable built-in phono preamp, making them compatible for a direct wired connection. Turntables with a raw phono output and no built-in preamp will require a separate phono preamplifier between the turntable and the AT-SP3XWH, as the speakers accept line-level input only.

What is Bluetooth multipoint pairing on the AT-SP3XWH?

Bluetooth multipoint pairing allows the AT-SP3XWH to maintain an active connection to two Bluetooth devices at the same time. This means a smartphone and a laptop, for example, can both remain paired without needing to disconnect one before using the other. Playback switching happens automatically based on which device sends an audio signal, making it convenient for users who move between sources throughout the day without manually managing Bluetooth connections.

Do the AT-SP3XWH speakers work without a subwoofer?

The AT-SP3XWH operates as a standalone stereo speaker system without a subwoofer. The 3" woofers and bass-reflex enclosure extend frequency response down to 55 Hz, which covers most music content adequately for casual listening at moderate volumes. For users who want more low-end weight for bass-heavy music or home theatre use, an external powered subwoofer with a line-level input can be paired by running a splitter from the source, as the AT-SP3XWH does not include a dedicated subwoofer output.

What devices are compatible with the AT-SP3XWH?

The AT-SP3XWH is compatible with any device that outputs a Bluetooth A2DP audio stream or a line-level analogue RCA signal. This includes smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers, turntables with built-in phono preamps, televisions with RCA outputs, dedicated CD players, and streaming devices. The speakers do not accept a digital optical or USB audio input, so sources that output only digital audio will need a DAC or analogue output adapter to connect via RCA.

Elevates your wrist
Color: Right - Black, Size: Large, Color: Right - Black, Size: Large
This is a great tool. No wrist pain day 1. It elevates your wrist to level with the mouse so there’s no backward strain. Takes a little getting use to but well worth no pain.

It's hard af.
Color: Right - Grey, Size: Small, Color: Right - Grey, Size: Small
Edit: just realized Amazon sent me a left handed one! I got this one and the g2 or whatever with the strap. The g2 is great. This one is hard though. The edges of the rest thingy. And the edges in the middle where it splits are annoying. Idk if it's a difference in the rubber pads or what. Even if this works for wrist pain, it's not worth it for the palm discomfort.

Ergonomic and effective, but requires adjustment.
Color: Right - White, Size: Large
Bought this for improving wrist posture during long hours at the desk. What I like • The ergonomic design helps reduce wrist strain, especially during extended typing sessions. • The right-handed orientation is comfortable and natural to use. • High-quality build, feels sturdy and durable. What could be better • It takes some time to adjust to the unique design, especially if you’re used to traditional mice. • The size may not be suitable for people with smaller hands. • It could be a bit pricey compared to other ergonomic mice on the market. Bottom line: A great investment for improving wrist posture and reducing strain, but it might not be for everyone due to the learning curve and price. Perfect for users looking to enhance ergonomics, but consider alternatives if you have smaller hands or need a more budget-friendly option.

It’s painful. Not worth it.
Color: Right - Grey, Size: Small, Color: Right - Grey, Size: Small
I hate it. Period. Very strong feelings about it right out of the box. Gave it a few days, and not only do I still hate it but it’s very painful to use. The rubber material is hard and has pressure points that make you come away feeling like you’ve rested your wrist on the edge of a table for too long. I come away more sore using this than not. They only have small and large sizes, I think the small is too small for me? (I’m not sure. I can tell it doesn’t fit well, but I can’t tell if it’s because it’s too small or the shape isn’t right for my wrist). In any event, I am sure the large would be too large and even if they had a medium size I still wouldn’t repurchase this. Maybe if you’ve got some meat on your bones it would be more comfortable but as you can see, I am a very thin person and this is pressing on all the wrong places. I also feel like the center valley part contributes to carpal tunnel pain because the very firm edges of each side rested right in that area, not offering any support to the valley of the wrist, and therefore creating pressure to that nerve center and the ligaments. I don’t know why they chose this material, it’s too firm. Also, I think a better design would be a little tab from the center of it sticking out and then attaching to the bottom of the mouse so that both mouse and the wrist “support” worked as one unit when moving the mouse around. I often found that I didn’t drag the wrist piece with my mouse well and that it caused even more issues. If it were comfortable I would have made a little tab myself and connected the mouse and the wrist rest together, but as it’s extremely not even remotely comfortable I’m not bothering and I’ve already started the return process.
