The purpose of Revelation is to emphasize the statement of Jesus in Matthew 16:18, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Revelation gives form and emphasis to what Paul said about the gospel: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth” (Rom. 1:16).

The heart of the gospel is the power of God in Christ Jesus to save from sin each person who is eager to forsake sin and trust in God. He is able not only to save from sin, but also to keep one safe from sin, in spite of all enemies of holiness (Heb. 7:25; Rom. 8:31-38)
