My World...and Welcome to It is a smart, sophisticated half-hour sitcom inspired by the humor and whimsical cartoons of James Thurber. The series stars William Windom as John Monroe, a wry, imaginative writer and cartoonist whose work appears in a magazine closely resembling The New Yorker, here called The Manhattanite.

Curmudgeonly yet charming, Monroe observes the absurdities of everyday life through a distinctly Thurber-esque lens, often retreating into elaborate daydreams and fantasies. These imaginative sequences—many drawn directly from Thurber’s stories—frequently blend live-action film with animation, bringing Monroe’s cartoons vividly to life. His musings both amuse and bewilder his practical wife Ellen (Joan Hotchkis) and his intelligent, inquisitive daughter Lydia (Lisa Gerritsen, best known as Bess Lindstrom on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Phyllis).

The supporting cast includes Henry Morgan as Philip Jensen and Harold J. Stone as Hamilton Greeley. The title itself comes from Thurber’s celebrated book My World — And Welcome To It, a collection of illustrated essays and stories that perfectly captures the tone and spirit of the series.

The show aired for one season on NBC from 1969–1970. It was created by Mel Shavelson, who wrote and directed the pilot and served as a principal writer. Sheldon Leonard was executive producer, while producer Danny Arnold co-wrote or directed numerous episodes and even appeared on screen as Santa Claus in “Rally Round the Flag.”

Despite its short run, My World… and Welcome to It earned critical acclaim, winning two Emmy Awards in 1970:

  • Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Comedy Series (William Windom)

  • Outstanding Comedy Series

The show was ultimately cancelled, in part due to the high cost of its ambitious animated segments.

Does the job, easy use, a bit bulky not exactly as described
Size: 12 Pairs / 24 pcs
Bare wire can be intolerable to work with. Banana plugs make a positive secure connection. These plugs are a touch bulky. Nice to not have to deal with small screws. Use as large of gauge wire as possible. The description says no unintentional disconnections. I beg to differ the bite of teeth aren’t as good as described. Used a 16 gauge pure copper speaker wire and a teenager taught me how secure the wire really is by tugging on the wire not the banana plug pulling the wire free. It does the job, it’s not the latest and greatest. If you need easy get these. If you want slim secure banana plugs buy the small screw type.

GET THEM!!
Size: 12 Pairs / 24 pcs, Size: 12 Pairs / 24 pcs
Fully gold plated inside and out! I initially got the amazon basic connectors for the same price, but was disappointed in the tiny burgundy positive label they had. It was also very dirty inside the connector and it wasn’t gold plated through out the connector. These are excellent in quality and have a bright red ban on the connector! You wont be disappointed and beats out Sewell connectors for the price!

Decent, but be careful of frequent use.
Size: 12 Pairs / 24 pcs, Size: 12 Pairs / 24 pcs
The looks are very nice, functional if left alone once assembled. After that I would leave them alone otherwise you risk the main male portion just coming loose of the housing, sound quality is decent, nothing to write home about, but again, not very durable. If they could fix that 1 thing, these would be very good buy and value, the rest of each plug is hefty and well made.

Great Banana Plugs
Size: 6 Pairs / 12 pcs
I recently purchased these FosPower banana plugs to tidy up my speaker wiring, and they’ve been a significant improvement over bare wire ends. Installation is straightforward: strip the wire, loosen the two tiny set screws, slide the wire in, tighten everything down, and then screw the barrel back on. Once assembled, the connection feels secure and tight, making it much easier to swap gear around and reducing the risk of stray strands causing a short. The standout feature of this design is the dual set-screw clamp. It firmly grips the speaker wire without relying on the outer collar to “crush” it in place. I’m using 12-gauge wire, and it holds well for my setup. Initially, the plugs may fit snugly in some binding posts. Once seated, there’s no wobble, but it might take a bit of extra push the first time. The set screws are small, so a bit of precision is needed. Use a small flathead screwdriver and don’t over-tighten them. Overall, these plugs feel well-made, look clean once installed, and fulfill their purpose as banana plugs: making speaker connections quick, neat, and reliable.
