Before Normandy, it was common for American vehicles overseas to carry a simple white star as an identifier. But in the dust and confusion of battle, the US star could occasionally be mistaken for a German Cross at ranges over 1000 yards. In fact, tankers and armored units began painting out the stars to avoid becoming a casualty of ‘friendly fire’, especially from allied air units. The problem got so bad that in this period the term “American Luftwaffe” was coined. Experienced units like the 2nd Armored actually started painting out their stars altogether.

After D-Day vehicles were refitted with a circle around the white star which largely solved the friendly fire issue until Berlin fell. Like this 8th Armored Division M24 Chaffee below as it rode into battle with heavily defended German forces in Rheinberg on March 3, 1945.

Today it’s a powerful symbol to remind us not to mistake each other for the enemy. In the dust and confusion of mass media and social media, where opinions fly, and passions fly even higher, it’s easy to forget who the real enemy is.

Let's keep the friendly fire down, boys. There's too much work to do.

protection plan is easy.
The protection plan worked on my coffee pot. It was just over 14 months and started to leak. I first called amazon and they sent me a link to the protection plan. It was very easy to use. I received a Amazon gift card instead of a replacement. The price of the coffee pot had increased so you will receive the lower option. I did receive the total cost of the pot at the time I purchased it.

It is worth purchasing a Protection Plan on an unfamiliar item
Bought a 3-year protection plan for a nut milk maker machine for $5.99. It was a fairly new kitchen item in our household and we were not familiar with the brand. So, I bought the plan for a piece (peace) of mind. The machine worked nicely for about 18-20 months with daily use until it tripped the circuit outlet. My initial chat with Asurion did not go as I expected due to discrepancy on their end as they see a protection plan for the nut milk maker as a sporting goods valued between $100-$199, not as a kitchen item valued between $30-$39.99. ( I had bought 3 different protection plan on th same day for multiple items purchased on Prime Days). They were looking at a different plan and I was unable to get them to "scroll over" to the appropriate protection plan. I tried again on a different day during the first hour of their contact hours and had a cheerful Asurion agent who was able to find the appropriate kitchen item protection plan. It was a simple and thorough conversation and transaction. I was refunded within hours after I packed up and dropped off the damaged item out to UPS. Moral of the story: Asurion Protection Plan is worth it and contact them at the start of their first day shift, not at the end of their evening shift.
