Two volumes, 8vo. Contemporary sprinkled calf, spines with raised bands and contrasting lettering-pieces (one missing), as well as ornamented in gilt; pp. [8], xxx, [2], 142 [recte 266]; [viii], 352, [4], three engraved folding maps; complete with errata leaf and half-titles; minimal wear to binding, offsetting from endpapers; otherwise very good; Lord Sandys' contemporary engraved armorial bookplates.

First edition, scarce. Demanet describes the immense profit that can be made by the slave trade in French West Africa, the possibility of more lucrative rubber plantations, mainly in Senegal, the Gambia and the adjacent regions. In volume one Demanet explores the different societies and tribes and the economic potential, whereas volume two contains a discussion why Africans are dark-skinned, the origin of the African 'race' and their relation with Arabs, who changed their colour 'proportionellement au climat' (p. 264). Demanet ridicules an earlier theory that links skin colour to properties of drinking water found in different parts of the world.

Enables the person to move around while wearing.
These silicon socks look a bit odd at first glance but they work great and best of all, any lotions and oily creams are contained on the inside so you can walk around. They are very soft. I haven't had them long so I can't comment on durability, but they are not made of lightweight material.

Does the job but dangerous to walk with!
Does the job but dangerous to walk with: foot is sliding inside the sock if the foot was treated with cream or lotion prior. It is uncomfortable to sleep with but a necessary hurdle to heal your heels!
