Overview

The pastoral tradition between Edmund Spenser and John Milton’s “Lycidas” is often overlooked; this new volume in the Tudor and Stuart Texts series begins to fill that gap by providing fully annotated and modernized texts of two pastoral collections from the reign of James I. The Shepherd’s Pipe, consisting of eclogues by William Browne, Christopher Brooke, John Davies of Hereford, and George Wither, has not been published in its entirety since 1614. Wither’s Shepherd’s Hunting, a companion to Shepherd’s Pipe published the following year, was written while Wither was imprisoned for satiric attacks on significant courtiers. The eclogues in these volumes consider such matters as love, the poetic vocation, and political justice, and frequently adopt a satiric stance in relation to their subject. In Shepherd’s Hunting the pastoral poet is banished from the traditional idyllic landscape and cast into the new role of hunter. The two collections are also noteworthy for their status as coterie productions; in pastoral guise the various authors appear in each other’s poems, creating a dynamic dialogue in the process. This volume, designed to be accessible for students, also provides a solid text for the use of scholars in the field. It provides an opportunity for both to understand better the genre of pastoral poetry as it developed in the early modern period.

Not a Good Choice for Chewers
Color: Get Ripped Margrrrita, Size: L
I loved the idea of this toy, but it did not work or last as intended. It is pretty heavy and made of thick rubber. The flaps over the cup where the treats are dispensed did not last 5 minutes with my pup, so we can no longer use it to dispense treats/use as a brain game.

Super fun, my dog loves it!
Color: Hambone Super Chewer, Size: M/L
I adopted a Feist/Pit mix and this was the first toy I got him for just him. He went nuts for it! He’s a destructive pup so ripping the soft “skin” off of hambone really helped him release some pent up energy! Now he carries it around in the yard and just chews on it. If you have tiny treats, drop em in the nose holes and watch your pup go crazy trying to get them out!

Not for super chewers
Color: Hambone Super Chewer, Size: M/L
Had to take it away from my dog the same evening I gave it to him because a chunk came off. I did not want him to choke on the pieces.

A favorite for my boys!
Color: Hambone Super Chewer, Size: M/L
My dogs love this toy, it satisfied their need to rip up a toy and still allowed them to play long after the top layer was torn apart to enjoy! It bounces well and has still held up with my chewers, this is still one of my dogs favorite toys to play fetch with!

Great toy
Color: Hambone Super Chewer, Size: M/L
My dog loves this toy so much. He's not quite so aggressive with his chewing, now that he's getting older, but this toy lasted through his younger years, and recently started to show signs of wear. He was so sad when I threw it out, that I had to replace it. Glad it still exists - we got the first one probably 5 years ago.
